JESSICA VALENCIA - APRIL 2025 ADVOCATE OF THE MONTH

Jessica Valencia

Jessica joined our program in February 2023 and has already worked on two cases, providing incredible support to the families in each one. She goes above and beyond to make sure the children—and their families—are truly heard. That kind of advocacy is priceless for the people we serve.

Jessica is a mom and a proud grandmother. Before becoming a realtor, she spent years in education at Paradise ISD. Her experience and heart for others make her a huge asset to our program. We’re so lucky to have her—she’s a powerful voice for those who often go unheard in our community.

What caused you to get involved with CASA?
I saw a billboard in Fort Worth 10-15 years ago. At the time I had small children at home and it was not possible for me to be involved.   Fast forward to being self-employed and a little more than 2 years ago and I decided that it was the right time.  I have worked in education in the past so I have seen how instability can affect children. My grandparents raised me and I know some kids are not as fortunate to have a safety net.

What has been the most rewarding part of being a CASA?
I can feel good to give placements and parents answers and help them navigate this process. I thought it would only be connecting with children but there are usually many parties  that can benefit from a CASA being involved.  I see it as being the glue to hold it together when all parties are stressed to their limits.

What’s your favorite way to connect with your CASA kids?
I have only had 2 cases and both were/are very unusual so I am told. I have mostly not been in close proximity to the children so that has been a challenge but I am happy to take these on. I try to connect through video visits, small gifts and visiting in person when I can.  I get to know the adults very well because of the distance and hopefully I have made their experience a little smoother.

Please share a special moment with us about your advocacy work with your CASA kids.
So far the best moment is seeing my first case completed and the children returned to mom- with everyone in tears.  The mom went above and beyond and I feel she is committed to being the best parent she can be and appreciates the skills she learned along the way.
